Jagged Edges‘: An art exhibition of printmaking, poetry, and music created by and for survivors of church-related abuse is taking place at Shieldfield Art Works between Wednesday 9 and Saturday 26 April 2025. The artists draw links between their own experiences and the story of Jesus as he approached his crucifixion. By David Creese, Peter Locke, and Sarah Troughton.

Exhibition Open:
Tuesday – Thursday, 11.00am – 4.00pm and Saturday, 1.00pm – 4.00pm.

Location: Shieldfield Art Works, 1 Clarence Street, Newcastle NE2 1YH.

In Jagged Edges the artists have drawn on their own experiences of abuse in a church context to make meaningful connections between the familiar story of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection, and the experiences of those harmed in Christian churches.

These survivors are inviting us to look at Jesus’ trauma and see his story as one of abuse and of God’s love for and solidarity with those who have been abused. They are also reaching out to the rest of the Church with an invitation to engage in the work of healing the broken relationships in Christian communities.

SAW Reflects: Wednesday 9 April // 6.30pm – 8.00pm

The exhibition will open with a SAW Reflects event.

This will be a chance to consider and discuss the themes of the exhibition alongside the artists. This a free event and a meal of soup and bread will be provided. An RSVP (to enquiries@saw-newcastle.org) is helpful if you’re coming, walk-ins are also welcome.
