Gift Aid

Gift Aid is a government scheme that enables us to reclaim the tax you have already paid on your donations. For every £1 you donate, we can reclaim 25p, and it doesn’t cost you a penny!

There are no obligations or expectations regarding the amount or frequency of your donations, and you don’t have to be employed; if you pay tax on a pension, Capital Gains, or savings you can still Gift Aid. Furthermore, higher rate (40%) taxpayers can claim back the difference between the basic tax rate and the tax they paid. You can cancel your Declaration at any time and for any reason simply by letting us know.

Your parish can reclaim 25p tax for every £1 you donate, and the reclaimed amount goes directly to your parish. Although the basic rate of tax is 20%, the amount reclaimed is 25% because of the way the tax relief is calculated by HMRC. Across the Diocese this equates to approximately £600,000.00 annually for parishes. Every pound raised helps to support our parishes, our priests, and those in need around us.

To Gift Aid your donations to your parish, all you need to do is complete the Gift Aid Declaration form, which you can either obtain from your parish Gift Aid Organiser or download the single donation form here, or a multiple donation form here. Hand the completed form to your parish Gift Aid Organiser who will send it on to the Diocese for registration, or return it to us by post: Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle, St Cuthbert’s House, West Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE15 7PY.
