This month the Youth minsitry Team update us on an upcoming Confirmation Retreat in January, the YMT Conference in February, opportunities to work at the Emmaus Village and also tell us about venue hire and self catering stays at the youth village.
YMT led Confirmation Retreat at the Emmaus Village, Friday 26 – Sunday 28 January 2024
There are still places for your Confirmation group to join other Confirmation candidates across the Diocese in exploring our faith, the Church, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
In this YMT led Confirmation Retreat, there will be time for fun, faith and food during these days of retreat. If you are a catechist and want to book your group, please email: firstname.lastname@example.org before Friday 19 January 2024.
Youth Ministry Conference – Saturday 3 February 2024
This Youth Ministry and Practical Theology Conference is YMT’s first conference since the COVID-19 pandemic and we look forward to gather with youth ministers, catechists, clergy, teachers, staff and volunteer co-workers from across the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle and beyond!
The theme for the conference is “Investing in the Fearlessness of Youth”, inspired by a quote from Pope Francis’ letter, Christus Vivit (Chapter 7 no. 233). Youth Ministry is what excites us; to help young people realise their identity as beloved children of God. However, we all know that today’s world poses many challenges to young people and the Church, and we must constantly reevaluate how we can best share God’s message and best serve His people.
We hope you can join us for this Youth Ministry Conference.
We are looking forward to welcoming keynote speaker, Reverend Professor David Wilkinson, Director of Equipping Christian Leadership in an Age of Science, an international project based at St John’s College, Durham, who will explore how we can engage young people in the Gospel when we live in a world of science. We are also pleased to welcome back David Wells, international speaker, best-selling author and friend of YMT, to guide us to reflect on our theme.
We endeavour to explore some of the ‘barriers’ faced by young people and youth ministry today, with some fantastic guest speakers leading a selection of workshops:
- How can we do Youth Ministry when… young people and families are hungry? Phil Callaghan | Trussell Trust | What can we do as Church when there is hunger on our doorstep?
- How can we do Youth Ministry when… families don’t come to Church? Amy Cameron | Vicariate Coordinator for Faith and Mission | Accompanying children and parents
- How can we do Youth Ministry when… young people face challenges in mental well-being? Beth Outram | Mental Health Social Work, Barnardo’s | Mental Health Toolkit
- How can we do Youth Ministry when… I feel unequipped to lead prayer? Sr Anna and Sr Linda | Daughters of Divine Charity | How to pray with young people
- How can we do Youth Ministry when… the Gospel is so hard to explain? Greg Finn | National Director of The Mark 10 Mission | Explaining ‘Tricky’ Gospels to Children
- How can we do Youth Ministry when… we aren’t engaging young people online? Mary Madziva | YMT | Social media & Evangelisation, basics for busy people!
