Saturday 27th June was Significance Day at the Emmaus Youth Village.

This year has been a very special one for the Youth Village as work began on the Laudato Si’ Project which will see 7,500 trees planted around the site.

Back in March, Bishop Stephen blessed the project and helped to plant the first tree with Diocesan Youth Council Chair Omeose Egbiremolen. This weekend he was happy to see roots had firmly taken hold!

Also on site, visitors were able to view a new prayer space which is realising a vision of Fr Dermott Donnelly. Fr Dermott wished to create a grotto in honour of Our Blessed Mother Mary and the beginnings of the sacred place are taking shape.

The grotto will be home to the statue of Vierge de Judess – the Virgin of Judea – also know as the Vierge a L’ecoute which means the Listening Virgin.

The image of Mary reminds us of her humility, faith and quiet, prayerful openness to God.

She invites all who come to her to pause, pray and find peace.
