The Education Team would like to pay tribute to Deborah Fox who retired on 31 December 2023.

Deborah was Deputy Director of Education for six years and then became Director of Education for a further six years. We are extremely grateful for her leadership and all that she has done to promote, protect and preserve Catholic education in our schools. We know that she will enjoy spending more time with her grandson.

Furthermore, we thank Claire Hetherington, our Diocesan Primary Religious Education Adviser for the loyal and dedicated support that she has given to our primary schools over the last twelve years. Claire will undoubtedly enjoy travelling to see family all over the world.

We thank God for their ministry and wish them both a long, happy and healthy retirement.

After interviews and successful appointment, we now have a full education team and are excited for the future.

Catholic Leaders and Clergy Conference 2023

Thank you to everyone who attended the Catholic Leaders & Clergy Conference and Celebration Mass on the 10 & 11 November 2023.  This annual conference provides an opportunity for senior leaders and members of the clergy to meet for professional development, formation, reflection and Mass.

The two-day conference was attended by over 100 delegates, and we had many more who attended the Celebration Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral. The conference consisted of keynote addresses from Fr Eamon Mulcahy and Paul Barber, Director of the Catholic Education Service who delivered an address entitled ‘Towards a Flourishing Academy System’. Evening prayer and musical accompaniment was provided by Jo Boyce, CJM Music.

We were delighted that many school and Trust leaders were able to join us at the end of conference Mass to give thanks for the years of service Deborah Fox and Claire Hetherington have given to the Catholic education in our Diocese. The Mass was also a great opportunity for the new Mass setting ‘Gaudete’ to be launched. Special thanks to the Diocesan and Bishop Chadwick Trust choirs, who led the singing so beautifully.
