Statement from the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle – Safeguarding Action Plan.

The Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle is committed to safeguarding both its own and wider communities.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

You will remember that the Catholic Safeguarding Standards Agency (CSSA) reviewed safeguarding in the Diocese starting in January 2023. Their report was published in June 2023.

Following much prayer and discussion, the Diocesan teams have produced a Safeguarding Action Plan to make sure we respond to all the recommendations made by the CSSA.

Please read the Safeguarding Action Plan and its actions. Please consider how you can assist in achieving them. If you require the Plan in an alternative format please contact the Safeguarding Office on 0191 243 3305.

To access the Safeguarding Action Plan please click here (updated version 8 April 2024).

We will update the plan via the website at regular intervals.

We also want you to tell us how we are doing. The Diocesan team welcome your questions, comments and feedback. You can get in touch by emailing:

We have provided a Glossary of abbreviations and terms which we hope you will find helpful in understanding the Safeguarding Action Plan, it is at the end of the plan.
