Staff and children at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Stanley welcomed a very special past pupil of theirs into school this week. Raffaello Moscardini, who turned 100 on Monday 9 September, visited school with some of his family members.
He showed the children his card from the King and Queen and his very special birthday message from Pope Francis. The children had an opportunity to ask Raffaello questions about the war, his time in the army and the differences between school then and now. When asked what his secret was to a healthy life, he told the children, “Listen to your teachers, read lots of books and eat well.”
Mrs Urwin, Head Teacher, said, “It was a wonderful afternoon for our whole school community. We have Raffaello’s three great-grandchildren in our school at the moment, which makes it even more special. It was wonderful for Raffaello to celebrate in his old school.“
