The Little Sisters of the Poor at St Joseph’s Home in Newcastle are finding these difficult economic times, which everyone is facing, increasingly more challenging. It is certainly a worrying and anxious time for us all. The current economic climate is having a significant impact on our fundraising activities and the charitable donations we rely on to meet the ever-increasing daily running costs of the Home.
The following appeal is shared on their behalf:
“Dear Friends,
I write to you today with a heartfelt and urgent appeal on behalf of St Joseph’s Home in Newcastle.
Like many others, we are feeling the profound effects of the current economic climate, yet the needs of our residents remain constant and, in many cases, more pressing than ever.
At the heart of our mission is the dignity, comfort and care of our elderly residents, many of whom are in the final stages of life. We urgently need to replace essential medical equipment that is critical to the support of end of life care – equipment that ensures our residents are cared for with the gentleness and respect they deserve.
In addition, we face structural and aesthetic needs: water penetration in the Chapel vestry, necessary redecorations throughout the Home including the Chapel, and the replacement of furnishings in the residents’ rooms. As you can appreciate, it is a formidable task. These improvements are not cosmetic – they are about creating a warm, safe and dignified space that feels like home.
This is a pivotal moment, and we cannot do it alone. Your support, now more than ever, can help us meet these challenges head-on. Whether it is restoring comfort to a resident’s room or providing the medical support that brings peace in their final days, your generosity will have a direct and meaningful impact.
If you are able to help, donations can be sent by cheque, payable to ‘Little Sisters of the Poor‘, to: St Joseph’s Home, Westmorland Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE4 7QA. Alternatively, secure, online donations can be made by visiting their website.
No gift is too small. Every act of kindness has a meaningful effect on the lives of our residents and brings us one step closer to ensuring that our residents continue to receive the care, dignity and love they so deeply deserve.
With gratitude for your continued compassion and prayers,
Sr Kathleen Mary“
