National Justice & Peace Networking Day
We hosted a successful networking day for the National Justice and Peace network on Saturday 24 September at the Quaker Meeting House, Darlington on the theme of ‘Welcoming the migrant in a hostile environment’.
It was attended by 38 people from across the country. We had input from speakers about the asylum process, an outline of local support for refugees and asylum seekers, and personal testimonies from people with lived experience. It was particularly inspiring to hear of the work done at Carmel School Darlington as a school of sanctuary. There will be a full report posted on our webpage when it is available.
Annual General Meeting
Our AGM was held on 8 October at the Diver-city Hub in Newcastle on the theme of ‘Is Compassion enough’. We had inputs from both the Christian and Sikh perspectives and a lively discussion ensued. Phil Watson was re-elected as chair and we were pleased to recruit 3 new people onto the council.
