Prayer Vigils

A prayer vigil for peace in Israel and Gaza is held each Saturday morning from 9.30am to 10.00am outside the Abbey in Hexham. All are welcome to join, even if just for a few minutes. On the last Saturday of each month there are prayers inside the Abbey at the end of the vigil.

Prayers for peace in Gaza and Israel are also offered each Thursday at Our Lady Immaculate and St Cuthbert RC Church, Crook from 7.00 – 7.30pm. All are welcome.

The next Interfaith Prayer vigil will be on Sunday 6 July 2025 at 3.00 – 3.45pm at the barrier to the Derwentside Immigration Removal Centre, Corbridge Road, Medomsley DH8 6QY.

If you cannot attend in person, perhaps you could join us in prayer from home. There is an online version of the vigil on the Diocesan website, which you can find here.

You can download our most recent booklet with the prayers and readings we use here.

This month’s tip for sustainable living: Be a Sustainable Consumer

Fast Fashion has many negative connotations – the urgency to produce clothes that quickly go out of fashion means more products in landfill and more carbon. Sourcing clothing from companies adopting organic standards means support for environmentally friendly sources. An alternative is to buy second-hand clothes.
