Interfaith Prayer Vigil at Derwentside Immigration Removal Centre (DIRC)

Our prayer vigils continue on the first Sunday of each month with our next one on Sunday 2 June at 3.00pm – 3.45pm at the barrier to the Derwentside Immigration Removal Centre, Medomsley DH8 6QY.

Currently, the centre has capacity for 80 women, but we believe It is likely that the capacity will increase as the realities of the Illegal Migration Bill are felt. It is also to change to become a facility for men. We believe we need a fairer asylum system which does not criminalise people for seeking sanctuary.

If you cannot attend in person, perhaps you could join us in prayer from home. There is an online version of the vigil on the Diocesan website which you can find here.

You can download our most recent booklet with the prayers and readings we use here.

National Justice and Peace Network (NJPN) Conference 2024

The National Justice and Peace Network Annual conference will take place from Friday evening, 19 July to Sunday afternoon, 21 July at the Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick Derbyshire. The centre is very well appointed, in lovely grounds with purpose built ensuite accommodation .

The theme ‘Just Politics‘ is particularly relevant this year with a general election looming. There will be talks and workshops from a variety of individuals and organisations looking at the need for integrity in public life and how, as people of faith, we can work with those in power both locally and nationally whilst holding those who represent us to account. You can read more about it here.

Several people from the Diocese are already booked to attend, and the plan is to car share to make travelling easier. If you are interested in attending or want more information, please email:
