Justice and Peace Networking Day

We are pleased to say that we will be hosting the National Justice and Peace Network networking day on Saturday 24 September at the Quaker Meeting House, Skinnergate, Darlington (10.30am – 4.00pm). This will be great opportunity to connect with Justice and Peace members from across the country.

The theme of the day will be ‘Welcoming the Stranger in a Hostile Environment’. The day will focus on issues facing people seeking asylum and the needs of refugees.

The day will include speakers with lived experience, workers in the sector and volunteers. This event will take place a day before the World Day of Migrants and Refugees and Pope Francis has asked us this year to highlight the positive potential and contribution made by migrants and refugees.

More details will follow, but please put it in your diary!

Prayer Vigil at Derwentside Immigration Removal Centre (DIRC)

We continue to hold monthly prayer vigils outside the barrier to Derwentside Immigration Removal Centre. The purpose is to pray for the women who are detained there, to stand in solidarity with them and to witness by our presence that their detention is inhumane, unjust and incompatible with our faith which calls us to recognise the unique dignity of each person. All are welcome to come along to a short prayer service which incorporates a time of silence.

The postcode for the Centre on Corbridge Road, Medomsley is DH8 6QY. If you are unable to join in person, please join in prayer from home at 3.00pm. Future dates planned are Sundays 7 August and 4 September.

Visit the Justice and Peace webpage where you will find more details, including an online version of the prayer vigil (view here), or email Liz Archibald: lizarchibald.justiceandpeace@gmail.com.
