It is with great sadness that we have to inform you of the death of Fr Thomas Burke this morning in hospital in Ireland, he was 85 years old.
Fr Thomas’ funeral will take place on Saturday 16 July at St Columba’s, Long Tower, Derry.
Fr Marc Lyden-Smith will represent the Diocese at the funeral.
Please remember Fr Thomas in your prayers and pray for the repose of his soul. May he rest in peace.
Fr Thomas Burke was born 23 January 1937, died on 14 July 2022; he was 85 years of age. You are asked to remember him in your prayers.
Fr Thomas was ordained to the priesthood on 5 June 1960. He has faithfully served the people of our Diocese in the following parishes:

Newcastle: St Michael, October 1960 – February 1964
Hartlepool: St Thomas More, February 1964 – January 1969
Hartlepool: St John Vianney, January 1969 – January 1971
Gosforth: St Charles, January 1971 – October 1973
Billingham: St John, October 1973 – August 1975
Durham: St Godric, August 1975 – June 1979
Parish Priest:
Blaydon: St Joseph, June 1979 – August 1993
Seaham Harbour: St Mary Magdalen, August 1993 – August 2014
Retired:
Derry: September 2014 – July 2022
Fr Thomas was a member of the Northern Brethren Fund.
