It is with great sadness that we have to inform you that Fr. Michael Sharratt died on Wednesday 25 August in the Freeman Hospital following a short illness.

Fr. Michael’s body will be received into St. Cuthbert’s Chapel, Ushaw College at 7.00pm on Wednesday 15 September and Mass will be celebrated.

Bishop Robert will celebrate the Requiem Mass at Ushaw at 12 noon on Thursday 16 September. The Mass will be followed by burial at Ushaw Cemetery.

Both the Reception Mass and the Requiem Mass will be live–streamed through the Diocesan Facebook Page. A video of the Requiem Mass will be made available via our YouTube channel in due course.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions and limited space in the Chapel you are required to book a place at the Requiem Mass:

Death Notice

It is with great sadness that I write to inform you that Fr. Michael Sharratt, born 16 January 1939 died on 25 August 2021; he was 82 years of age. I ask you to remember him in your prayers.

Fr. Michael was ordained to the priesthood on 27 October 1963 then undertook further studies in Rome and Oxford. He became Professor at Ushaw College, Durham in September 1967 where he remained until very recently when he moved to the Little Sisters of the Poor, Newcastle.

Fr. Michael was a member of the Northern Brethren Fund and fellow members of the NBF are reminded to offer two Masses for the repose of his soul de obligatione.
