On Tuesday 14 June, Bishop Robert paid a visit to the retired priests living at Holy Cross Care Home in Sunderland
Bishop Robert met with Canon Bob Spence and Fathers Harry O’Reilly and Pat McKenna over a cup of tea in the library at Holy Cross Care Home in Sunderland. Canon Alec Barrass, who also resides at Holy Cross was unable to join them as he is currently on holiday.
The Bishop spent time chatting to the priests and was delighted at the level of care provided by St Cuthbert’s Care who run the home.
Canon Spence sang the praises of the staff who look after the priests and other residents of the home, ensuring they have all they need and are very well looked after. The priests are happy and content at the home, and are very much looking forward to the chapel reopening to the local community soon. Canon Spence also makes use of the facilities at St Cuthbert’s Care’s Alan Shearer Centre in Newcastle, namely the hydrotherapy pool, which he finds highly effective.
