The first World Children’s Day was established by Pope Francis to celebrate all the children in the worldwide Church. The idea was suggested to Pope Francis by a 9 year-old boy called Alessandro and Pope Francis liked his idea very much and he made the idea come to life.

As a Diocese, we want as many children as possible to be part of the experience and to be able to celebrate the event leading up to this day. To support you with this, the Vicariates for Faith & Mission and Education are working with the Youth Ministry Team to develop resources, which can be used in schools and parishes, allowing children to encounter Christ in many ways.

These resources include a Children’s Liturgy of the Word session and we have created a PowerPoint to introduce the event; this introductory PowerPoint will provide some succinct information and ideas for planning. There is also an Art Competition for children with some fantastic prizes.
