Bishop Stephen, the members of the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle Interreligious Team and the whole of the Diocese, wish to express our heartfelt sorrow and deepest solidarity with you following the tragic shootings at Bondi Beach.
At times like this, words can scarcely convey the depth of our grief, but we wish to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to stand together against all forms of violence and prejudice. Our faith calls us to uphold the dignity of every person, and we reject any act that seeks to divide and sow fear amongst our communities.
We pray for the victims and their loved ones, for the healing of those injured – both physically and emotionally and for the restoration of peace in our hearts.
May God, the source of all comfort, grant you strength and hope during these difficult days.
We pledge to continue building bridges of understanding and friendship, and to work together for a world where such tragedies no longer occur.
Please be assured of our prayers, support and solidarity. May the memory of those lost inspire us to all act with greater compassion and courage in the face of darkness. With deepest sympathy and in hope.
