Statement from the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle – Safeguarding Action Plan.
An update on the Safeguarding Action Plan, reviewed in March 2025 can be found here.
With the vast majority of the actions now complete, the Safeguarding Department are now developing a Safeguarding Improvement Plan for the Diocese, with the working title ‘Safer Spaces, People, and Activities’ which will assist in meeting and hopefully exceeding the eight standards by which the Diocese are assessed by the Catholic Safeguarding Standards Agency.

The Eight National Safeguarding Standards
The plan will be a three year strategic roadmap to further embed safeguarding into every part of Diocesan activity and further protect children and vulnerable adults in the Diocesan family.
