It was a great privilege to have the relics of Blessed Carlo Acutis in our Diocese in March.

The Diocesan Department for Education led a holy hour as part of 24 hours of adoration at St Michael’s Catholic Church, Houghton-le-Spring. Pupils from St Michael’s Catholic Primary School, Houghton-le-Spring and St Teresa’s Catholic Primary School, Heaton led a celebration of the word during the live stream. As part of this celebration, St Michael’s children performed a liturgical dance dedicated to Blessed Carlo Acutis. They worked exceptionally hard leading up to the day and we are very thankful for all their efforts. The children from St Teresa’s, led us in reflections and prayers, where everyone had the opportunity to reflect upon the life of Blessed Carlo Acutis and pray for those in our school communities, our diocese and our global family.

This year, Blessed Carlo will become the first millennial saint, and we have been so blessed to be able to encounter such a special and inspirational person during the time that the relics were in the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle. We would like to thank Fr Marc Lyden-Smith for inviting us to be involved in this special occasion.
