Prayer Vigils

A prayer vigil for peace in Israel and Gaza is held each Saturday morning from 9.30am to 10.00am outside the Abbey in Hexham. All are welcome to join, even if just for a few minutes. On the last Saturday of each month there are prayers inside the Abbey at the end of the vigil.

The next Interfaith Prayer vigil will be on Sunday 5 January at 3.00 – 3.45pm at the barrier to the Derwentside Immigration Removal Centre, Corbridge Road, Medomsley DH8 6QY.

If you cannot attend in person, perhaps you could join us in prayer from home. There is an online version of the vigil on the Diocesan website, which you can find here.

You can download our most recent booklet with the prayers and readings we use here.

Dates for your Diary

The Justice and Peace Co-ordinating Council ‘s AGM will be on Saturday 8 February from 10.30am to 3.00pm. It well be held in the meeting room at St Marys Cathedral, Newcastle (opposite the central station).

The morning will be facilitated by Pat Devlin who will be delivering part of the training programme, ‘Listening from the Heart‘ devised by the Parents Circle – Families Forum, which brings together bereaved Israeli and Palestinian families.

The central part of this training is video dialogues between bereaved Palestinians and bereaved Israelis which have been created specifically for this moment of time. As well as sharing their stories and their journeys from revenge seeking grief to joint peace-making work, they also ask each other questions about the current situation. We hope as many people as possible will join us for what will be a powerful presentation. More details, including how to register for attendance will follow and will be on the Justice and Peace webpage.

Be a Zero-waste Hero

As part of our commitment to sustainable living the Justice and Peace Co-ordinating council suggests this for a 2025 New Year resolution:

  • Cutting down on plastic means cutting down on carbon as well.
  • Take reusable products with you wherever you go such as a reusable cup when you visit your local coffee shop.
  • Choose products when shopping which are not wrapped in plastic, or take advantage of a local zero-waste shop. This tells companies that you will not accept products packed in plastic.
  • Use your £ to vote for change.
