Annual Catholic Education Leader and Clergy Conference
We were delighted to be joined by Bishop Stephen Wright, Canon Simon Lerche, many headteachers, members of our Catholic Education Trust teams and a number of clergy at our annual Catholic Education Leader and Clergy Conference at the end of November.
Our main keynote speaker was Father Toby Lees OP, a Catholic priest and member of the Order of Preachers. Father Toby spoke to delegates about, ‘Catholic Leadership: A Distinctive and Unexpected Journey’, He was joined by Dr Ann Marie Mealey, the founding Director for Catholic Mission at Leeds Trinity University. She discussed the significance of the ‘common good’ and Catholic Social Teaching as a vehicle for supporting leadership in Catholic Educational settings today.
The Conference Mass on Friday was celebrated by Bishop Stephen at the Cathedral Church of St Mary’s and was an opportunity for all leaders to be recommissioned. The music during the Mass was beautifully led by a choir comprising boys and staff from St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School, Newcastle upon Tyne. The conference gave all present the opportunity to come together as ‘One Diocesan Family’.
