St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Stanley has been rated Outstanding in its most recent inspection. It has been described as a welcoming and inclusive faith community dedicated to following the teachings and examples of Jesus.

Following October’s inspection, the report found that staff at St Joseph’s are exemplary role models who are extremely proud to be part of this special school community. They were also praised for their excellent subject knowledge, high expectations and skilful questioning.

Pupils were described as religiously articulate and extremely knowledgeable, resulting in consistently strong outcomes in RE. Their creativity, confidence in leading prayer and their response to Catholic Social Teaching is outstanding.

Inspectors highlighted the incredibly strong links with the parish and the extremely positive relationships with parents. “Parents appreciate the support and nurture that staff give to pupils, saying they feel part of a bigger family since their child came to this school.

The report also praised the school’s early years provision where pupils know that they are valued and made in the image and likeness of God.

Mary Urwin, headteacher at St. Joseph’s, said, “We are thrilled with the outcome of this inspection. It really highlights the efforts of our wonderful staff, pupils and whole school community who work tirelessly to make this school a special place to be. We are particularly pleased that our strong links with our local parish have been recognised, too. It is a real privilege to lead this wonderful faith community.

This is the first inspection since September 2016.
