Interfaith Prayer Vigil at Derwentside Immigration Removal Centre (DIRC)
The next Interfaith Prayer vigil will be on Sunday 4 August at 3.00pm – 3.45pm at the barrier to the Derwentside Immigration Removal Centre, Corbridge Road, Medomsley DH8 6QY.
As well as praying for the detained women and the staff who work there, at the vigil we also collect toiletries and other items for welcome packs for the women detained in the centre. These are then passed on the Friendship Across Borders organisation, for delivery to the women.
There is always a need for moisturising body creams, shower gel, lip salve, eye masks, slipper socks, ear plugs. We cannot accept food stuffs, anything in glass containers or anything containing alcohol. Small suitcases and travel bags (including used ones in good condition) are also very welcome and financial donations for phone cards or items are also welcomed.
If you cannot attend in person, perhaps you could join us in prayer from home. There is an online version of the vigil on the Diocesan website, which you can find here.
You can download our most recent booklet with the prayers and readings we use here.

National Justice and Peace Network Annual Conference “Just Politics”
The National Justice and Peace Network Annual Conference took place from Friday 19 to Sunday 21 July at the Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick, Derbyshire. Fourteen people from our Diocese took part in what was a busy, enjoyable and productive weekend.
The event was attended by over 160 people from across the country and we had the opportunity to hear from a range of speakers and attend workshops based on the theme “Just Politics”.
We came home tired, but inspired with lots of practical ideas to engage with politicians to builder a fairer world. A full report will be published on our webpage.
