The Northern Catholic Calendar

2021 represents the 153rd year of publication of the Northern Catholic Calendar, in the word of our Bishop it is,

a great tribute to the life and work of our Diocese. In its pages we read of many groups and individuals who do much to proclaim the Gospel and develop the mission of the Church in the North East. Of course, at he heart of our missionary work is the love of God and no publication can adequately express the depth of our personal love and service of Him and the inner life and motivation of our Catholic faith. Nonetheless, the calendar demonstrates the collaboration of priests, deacons, religious and lay faithful who work together to form a pilgrim Church. We can read about the many initiatives in the Diocese that form people in the spiritual life and those that reach out to those in any kind of need. Above all it gives us a glimpse into the life of our parishes which are the building block of the Church’s life and mission.

The Northern Cross

The Northern Cross, the independent newspaper for the Catholic Diocese of Hexham & Newcastle.

It’s website transforms the monthly tabloid newspaper into an online publication delivering news to the Catholic and wider Christian community across the North East.

One of the main features of the website is an Online Subscription service, allowing subscribers access to the full editorial content of the current issue of the paper. Readers throughout the world are now able to keep up to date with all that’s happening in the Diocese.

Subscribers to postal copies of the Northern Cross can receive the comprehensive online service free of charge.

The website automatically converts to provide the clearest presentation possible on computers, tablets, smartphones and other mobile devices.

Most news reports are accompanied by photographs in stunning quality and the website includes pages explaining about the history and objectives of the Cross, how to advertise, how to subscribe and who to contact. Much of the content contains hyperlinks to related pages or websites.

The Northern Cross, a registered charity, is encouraging parishes, schools and organisations affiliated to the Catholic Church in the North East to place links to its website on their own internet platforms. To give feedback or to discuss the service, readers are invited to contact the editor, Emma Little by email:
