St Benet’s Catholic Primary School in Ouston, part of Bishop Wilkinson Catholic Education Trust, is celebrating a glowing Ofsted report, with particular praise for its outstanding behaviour and attitudes, exceptional personal development, and strong leadership and management. The inspection conducted in December 2024, highlighted the school’s commitment to high standards of education, a nurturing Catholic ethos, and a culture where all children feel valued and supported.

In addition, St Benet’s are also celebrating an Outstanding Catholic School Inspection report, following their visit by Diocesan inspectors in November 2024. Inspectors recognised the high level of pastoral care of the whole school community, as well as the rich opportunities for pupil leadership in Catholic life and mission and collective worship. Bishop Stephen Wright visited St Benet’s on Thursday 20 February and praised the school for their success.

The school’s recent challenges, including the closure of its main building due to reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) concerns, have only strengthened its resilience. The school’s Headteacher Catherine Young expressed her pride in the report, stating, “We are absolutely delighted with the outcomes from our recent inspections and couldn’t be prouder of what we have accomplished during the last 12 months. This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our staff, the enthusiasm of our children, and the unwavering support from our parents and the wider school community. We pride ourselves on our relationships with our children and families which start with the youngest members of our St Benet’s family, in Nursery.’

St Benet’s offers a comprehensive wraparound care timetable, ensuring that children are looked after in a safe and enriching environment, available from 7.30am to 5.30pm. The school’s breakfast and after-school clubs provide structured activities, homework support, and play-based learning, allowing children to start and end their school day in a positive and supportive setting. There are currently places available in some year groups across the school so please get in touch for further details.
