In association with the Diocesan Church Music Association (DCMA), a workshop, led by Steven Maxson, Director of Music for Middlesbrough Diocese is to be held reflecting the new translation of the Lectionary that has recently been introduced in this country.

It will be of particular relevance to those involved in music for the liturgy in our parishes and schools, whether you currently sing the psalm or not.

The event takes place as follows:

Venue: St Michael, Durham Road, Houghton-le-Spring DH5 8NF.
Date: Saturday 1 March 2025
Timings: 2.00 – 4.00pm

There is no charge for the workshop.

The Responsorial Psalm at Mass ranks highly in the order of things that are sung, coming second in priority only to the Gospel Acclamation and the Eucharistic Acclamations.

However, there are many places where the psalm is not currently sung and this workshop will be beneficial to those who would like to start. What better time could there be to sing the Psalm than during the Easter season? Steven will give encouragement and support to those in this position by looking at psalm settings for the Easter period. Hopefully the workshop will provide encouragement and give people the confidence to take back what they have experienced to their own parishes.

At the end of the workshop there will be an opportunity for questions and a chance to discuss singing the Psalm with other people involved in music ministry.
