Fr Leo Pyle RIP
It is with sadness we share the news that Fr Leo Pyle died on 10 July 2026; he was 93 years of age.
Fr Leo was ordained to the priesthood on 21 July 1957. He has faithfully served the people of our Diocese in the following parishes:
Professor, Ushaw College: Sept 1957 – July 1966
Student, London, Corpus Christi College: Sept 1966 – July 1967
Chaplain, Newcastle, Convent of the Sacred Heart: August 1967 – Nov 1978
Parish Priest, North Shields, St Cuthbert: Nov 1978 – Aug 1986
Parish Priest, Sunderland, St Mary: Aug 1986 – Sept 1997
Parish Priest, Haydon Bridge, St John Beverley & Haltwhistle, St Wilfred: Sept 1997 – Dec 2018
Retired: Hexham, Dec 2018 – July 2026
Bishop Stephen will celebrate Fr Leo’s Requiem Mass, at St Mary’s, Hexham at 12 noon on Wednesday 29th July. His cremation will follow at West Road Crematorium for family and close friends only.
Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let Your perpetual light shine upon him.
