On Saturday, 8 July 2023, a landmark event took place in the Diocese of Hexham & Newcastle as Archbishop Malcolm McMahon, OP, Apostolic Administrator, presided over the Ordination Mass at the Cathedral Church of St Mary in Newcastle. The occasion was imbued with solemnity and jubilation, marking a pivotal point in the spiritual journey of four committed individuals.
Celebrations included the Ordination to the Priesthood of Deacon Paul Kilduff and Deacon Endre Kormos, and the Ordination to the Permanent Diaconate of Alison Rebello and Patrick Rutherford. The ceremony began promptly at 11.00am, with Archbishop McMahon as the principal celebrant.
Understanding the significance of this event and the desire for participation from those who were unable to attend in person, the Cathedral Church of St Mary offered a livestreaming service of the Mass. This service, broadcast via YouTube and available here, allowed a broader audience to participate remotely, sharing in the joy and reverence of the ceremony.
A photo gallery has been put together to commemorate the occasion. The gallery captures several significant moments, from the ordination of each individual to the collective celebration that ensued:
