Students from St Bede’s Catholic School and Sixth Form College, Lanchester have been working hard to promote ‘Red Wednesday‘ (22 November 2023), a campaign to raise awareness of the persecution of Christians and indeed people of other faiths around the world.
The Sixth Form Chaplaincy team created 1400 red doves which were distributed to everyone in the school. Everyone was invited to write a prayer for #RedWednesday for persecuted peoples of all faiths and none.
The Art department used the prayers for a wonderful thought-provoking wall display.
Students stayed after school to bake cakes for a bake sale and the Food Tech department generously contributed with cup cakes from the after school ‘Bake Off‘ group.
Sixth form students are leading the Rosary in the chapel at lunchtime and selling some merchandise and raffling a cake.
Matthew, a sixth form student, has shared his thoughts online here: https://acnuk.org/event/acn-red-wednesday-livestream-event/ and a group of students bravely livestreamed via the Aid to the Church in Need Youtube channel.
The school is a member of Bishop Wilkinson Catholic Education Trust.
