Today, 1st April 2026, Bishop Stephen celebrated the Chrism Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral with the priests of our Diocese.
Our priests together renewed their commitment to priestly service and saw the blessing of the oils which are used in the Sacraments for the coming year.
Renewal of Commitment to Priestly Service

Oil of the Sick
“Father, in this oil we see the sign of your healing power at work in your people and in the Sacrament of the Sick. Give strength and comfort to those who are ill and bless those who work in the ministry of healing.”
Oil of the Catechumens
“Father, in this oil we see the sign of growth and new life in your Church as you call men and women to journey in the Way of your Son. Give wisdom and understanding to catechumens who will be anointed with this oil and give meaning to those who search for answers.”
Oil of Chrism
“Father, in this oil we see the sign of Christ you r Son who breathes the Spirit upon us to make us Priests, Prophets and Kings. Pour out that Spirit on all those whom you call to receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Orders.”
