Our Lady and St Thomas Catholic Primary School in Willington has been presented the Heritage Schools Award by Historic England. They earned this award for working with Northern Heartlands on their project, ‘Hidden Heritage’ which is funded by Heritage Lottery. The fund is to encourage communities, including schools to research and understand the heritage of their ‘place’ as there is evidence to suggest that having this understanding has a positive impact on wellbeing.
From now until the end of the year the school would like to work with community groups and schools in Willington and the surrounding villages to undertake research activities finding out more about the local heritage, these will then be followed by some creative activities that will feed into a big event (like The Man Engine) happening in summer 2023, which will mark the end of the project.
Our Lady and St Thomas Catholic Primary School is a member of Bishop Hogarth Catholic Education Trust.
