Children from St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Hartlepool were invited to participate in a special celebration at the end of Black History Month.
The event was organised by Transformers HLP who came into school to work with the children in sessions that included the history and meaning of their names and African Drumming. During the day our some of our children were able to talk and share about their own African heritage too.
The members of Transformers HLP were so impressed with the children’s attitude and involvement that they invited St Joseph’s to create a choir to sing at the celebratory event on 28 October 2023. The children and their parents attended an evening of song, poetry, music and a meal of traditional African foods. Our choir performed, ‘We are the World’ for the esteemed guests which include the Mayor of Hartlepool and Zimbabwean Chief Nhlanhlayaman.
