It is with great sadness that we have to inform you of the death of Fr Henry (Harry) Ryan on Wednesday 2 March 2022.

Please remember Fr Harry in your prayers and pray for the repose of his soul.

Fr Harry’s body will be received into Holy Family, Darlington at 6.00pm on Thursday 17 March and Mass will be celebrated.

Bishop Robert will celebrate the Requiem Mass at 12.00 noon on Friday 18 March at St Thomas’, Darlington. The Mass will be followed by cremation.

Death Notice

Fr Henry (Harry) Ryan, born 24 October 1931, died on 2 March 2022; he was 90 years of age.

Fr Harry was ordained to the priesthood on 5 June 1955. He has faithfully served the people of our Diocese in the following parishes:

Curate:

Newcastle: St Michael’s September 1955 – October 1960
Jarrow: St Mary’s October 1960 – September 1967
Hartlepool: St Cuthbert’s September 1967 – November 1970
Felling: St Patrick’s November 1970 – August 1973

Priest-in-Charge:

Newton Aycliffe: St Joseph’s August 1973 – January 1980

Parish Priest:

Newton Aycliffe: St Mary’s January 1980 – September 1992
Hartlepool: St Mary’s September 1992 – December 1996

Priest In Residence:

Bishop Auckland: St Paulinus January 1997 – March 2013

Retired:

Darlington: Holy Family March 2013 – March 2022
