Dads and grandads in South Shields enjoyed a trip back to school to watch a stunning BMX stunt show, eat a tasty curry and share a special day with their children. St Gregory’s Catholic Primary school, which is part of Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust, held a special Mother’s Day afternoon tea for mothers and grandmothers in March and it was so popular that they decided to hold an event dedicated to the fathers, grandfathers and uncles of pupils for Father’s Day.

The Dine with Dad event began with an awe-inspiring bicycle display by 3SIXTY on the school yard, followed by a celebratory curry made by the school’s catering team.

We had a fabulous turnout with 115 dads, grandads and uncles attending the event,” said acting headteacher Emma Shaughnessy.

The Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea event was such a lovely occasion we wanted to show our appreciation to the dads and grandads too. We were astounded with the numbers of people who turned up! Over 110 family members in all. They enjoyed a special BMX stunt show outside before sitting with their children for lunch.

Our wonderful kitchen staff prepared a ‘dad’ favourite of curry, rice, poppadom and onion bhajis. The feedback was exceptional and they appreciated being invited in to see school life in action.

Parent Danielle Rutherford said, “My husband thoroughly enjoyed it and the boys loved having him there in school with them. It was a well-organised event and such a lovely thing to do!

Miss Shaughnessy added, “I would like to thank all of the staff who worked so hard to make it a memorable experience and a special thanks to the BCCET catering team for their support too.
