Introduction

Dear Sisters & Brothers

In order to grow as a synodal Church it is important that we all have a chance to pray and discern how the Holy Spirit is inviting us to grow in mission in our parishes and communities. To facilitate this, I together with others, offer an initial Diocesan vision for your prayerful reflection. Our discerned Diocesan commitments are: To Walk with Jesus and Enable Others to Encounter Him; To Grow as One Diocesan Family – Rebuilding Relationships; Forming and Developing People for Mission; Living Justly and Caring for Our Common Home. Each of these commitments are developed in the vision. It is not my intention to impose this vision. It is offered for further reflection and I invite all of our parishes and communities to prayerfully reflect on them. We offer accompanying resources and support to enable this reflection. Please contact your parish office if you would like hard copies of these materials which are all available on the Diocesan website.

With assurances and prayers,

Bishop Stephen

We entrust the future of our diocesan family to our patron, Blessed Lady Immaculate, pray for us.

What is the Lord Calling Us to Be and Do?

A Synodal Vision for the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle.

As disciples of Jesus in the Church of Hexham and Newcastle, listening to His invitation, we feel called to make the following commitments:

  • Commitment 1: To Walk with Jesus and Enable Others to Encounter Him.
  • Commitment 2: To Grow as One Diocesan Family – Rebuilding Relationships.
  • Commitment 3: Forming and Developing People for Mission.
  • Commitment 4: Living Justly and Caring for Our Common Home.

Session Guides

The resources have been designed to help people engage with the Diocesan Vision.

The suggested sessions seek to support prayerful consideration of the commitments we are invited to make, exploring how this might be owned and lived in our context of One Diocesan Family.

It outlines five suggested sessions that seek to synodally unpack the vision. This is not intended to be prescriptive or to be an information gathering process. This is for prayer and discernment among our communities.

The five sessions:

  • Session 1 – Discerning the vision together.
  • Session 2 – Commitment 1: To Walk with Jesus and Enable Others to Encounter Him.
  • Session 3 – Commitment 2: To Grow as One Diocesan Family – Rebuilding Relationships.
  • Session 4 – Commitment 3: Forming and Developing People for Mission.
  • Session 5 – Commitment 4: Living Justly and Caring for Our Common Home.
