Bishop Stephen will lead a Diocesan Pilgrimage to Rome and the centre of the Eternal City before then moving onto Assisi in Umbria, the ‘green heart’ of Italy, and the centre of St Francis and St Clare’s ministry.
The Pilgrimage will take place 22nd – 29th October 2027 at a cost of £1,725 per person.
Places are limited to 50 pilgrims and places are allocated on a first come first served basis with payment of the deposit securing your place.
The programme (subject change) includes:-
Fri 22nd Oct – Newcastle Airport to Rome Fiumicino Airport. Tour of Catacombs of San Callixtus. Transfer to the Hotel Lancelot. Visit to the Colosseum.
Sat 23rd Oct – Mass at the Church of San Alfonso. Visit to the Basilica of Saint Mary Major and Basilica of San Clemente. Visit to Coelian Hill to see the churches of Saints John & Paul.
Sun 24th Oct – Saint Peter’s Basilica for Mass. Later to join Pope Leo XIV for the Angelus in Saint Peter’s Square.
Mon 25th Oct – Guided tour of the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel. Afternoon visit to the Venerable English College (where Bishop Stephen was a seminarian). Evening visit to the Trevi Fountain.
Tues 26th Oct – Transfer to the Hotel La Rocca in Assisi. Visit to the Oratory of San Francesco Piccolino, the Chiesa Nuova and the church of Santa Maria Maggiore where the church houses the body of Saint Carlo Acutis.
Wed 27th Oct – Visit to the Basilica of St Francis. Excursion to the valley below Assisi to visit the Church at Rivotorto, the Commonwealth War Cemetery and Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels.
Thurs 28th Oct – Visit to the Basilica of St Clare and Church of St Damian. Visit the Carceri Hermitage on Mount Subasio.
Fri 29th Oct – Transfer to Rome Fiumicino Airport for return flight to Newcastle Airport.
