On 27th June, musicians from across the Diocese enjoyed a Day of Reflection at Ushaw College near Durham. Through prayer, song, presentations and discussion, the attendees explored the importance of music ministry in preparing the liturgy.
Alison McLean, chair of the Diocesan Church Music Association, said “I believe everyone enjoyed the day and took away with them not only some useful information and resources but also a sense of support and affirmation for their valuable ministry”.
One attendee commented, “The presentations were excellent and an important reminder of why we do what we do. I thoroughly enjoyed the day”.
The DCMA hopes to follow this up soon with another music day, and is keen to know what people would like to see. A focus on a particular season of the church’s year, perhaps, or a variety of Mass Settings/Eucharistic Acclamations? Communion songs other than those in our hymn books? Some Common Responsorial Psalms?
