Evangelii Gaudium Sunday

Evangelii Gaudium Sunday (The Joy of the Gospel)

The Third Sunday in September, formerly called Home Mission Sunday, is now Evangelii Gaudium Sunday. Named after Pope Francis’ first (solo) Apostolic Exhortation on the Joy of the Gospel, the day offers the Catholic community in England and Wales the opportunity to be joyous in proclaiming the faith – seeking new ways of understanding the faith and reaching out to others.

What practical steps can you do this week to share love, joy and faith with the people you meet? Could you commit to seeking and sharing words of joy in the face of adversity? Could you do one extra act of kindness to help another who is in need? Could you talk and listen to someone who has been missing from your Church community?

“All the baptised, whatever their position in the church or their level of instruction in the faith, are agents of evangelisation… Every Christian is challenged, here and now, to be actively engaged in evangelisation…We are all missionary disciples…so what are we waiting for?”

(Para. 120 EG)
